I am a native of California and have traveled the world in my career in international trade and have developed an interest in other cultures. I have visited over thirty countries always taking the time to explore the sights; the sounds; the art; and the gardens of the places I visited.
Much of my work builds on my love of the folk art that dominates art in the countries of Russia, South America and parts of Eastern Europe. The vibrant colors and emotional motifs that characterize the development of art in these countries strongly influences my work.
I enjoy using a broad range of both techniques and concepts. My work utilizes oil, acrylics, and oil pastels depending on which medium best suits the scene and emotions with which I am working. I have also utilized my interest in textile art, including embroidery, which I studied in France, to enhance my paintings. Most recently I have begun to study the impact of color on alternative subjects and I have completed works that include realistic scenes side by side with modern abstract paintings where both utilize the same color palette. I am best known for my lyrical landscapes as well as my paintings showcasing individual flower blossoms.
I divide my time between my home in the Washington, D.C. area, my studio on the Northern Neck in Virginia; and with my family in Northern California.
